Jackson/5. The Shaft is a lost splatterpunk classic from I say "lost" because finding these books in Australia in the s was a laughable proposition, especially in the rural stinkhole in which I was so uncomfortably ensconced.
But now it's available on Kindle for /5(9). Think of it as "The Origin of Shaft" or "Shaft Year One": it's the backstory which tells us how the hero of the original paperbacks and movies came to be the "complicated man" we all know.
Walker's story is superb: tightly and realistically plotted, vividly and epigramatically scripted, and with rounded characters with convincing motivations/5(13). This book is set in and the author makes it clear that this is different from the movie version of John Shaft.
During the course of the story, Walker brings out that Shaft got so popular from the experiences in the first book (by Ernest Tidyman) that he - Shaft - became popular and had a movie made about him (i.e.

The author clearly knows nothing of how the four timings of a camshaft correlate with the rest of an engine, especially the exhaust length and diameter - or, indeed, how the inlet diameter and length come into the equation too.4/5(24).
