Shaft is a American blaxploitation crime action film directed by Gordon Parks and written by Ernest Tidyman and John D. is an adaptation of Tidyman's novel of the same name and it's the first entry in the Shaft film plot revolves around a private detective named John Shaft who is hired by a Harlem mobster to rescue his daughter from the Italian mobsters who Music by: Isaac Hayes, Johnny Allen.

Fortunately, this first book - in what turns out to be a series of seven - is the basis for the movie which follows the story almost as closely as Tinseltown ever can. In I picked this up after watching the remake of "Shaft" starring Samuel L.

Jackson/5. The Shaft is a lost splatterpunk classic from I say "lost" because finding these books in Australia in the s was a laughable proposition, especially in the rural stinkhole in which I was so uncomfortably ensconced.

But now it's available on Kindle for /5(9). Think of it as "The Origin of Shaft" or "Shaft Year One": it's the backstory which tells us how the hero of the original paperbacks and movies came to be the "complicated man" we all know.

Walker's story is superb: tightly and realistically plotted, vividly and epigramatically scripted, and with rounded characters with convincing motivations/5(13). This book is set in and the author makes it clear that this is different from the movie version of John Shaft.

During the course of the story, Walker brings out that Shaft got so popular from the experiences in the first book (by Ernest Tidyman) that he - Shaft - became popular and had a movie made about him (i.e.

the movie with Richard Roundtree)/5(7). Shaft was the result, giving Tidyman the break he was looking for. He went on to become an Academy Award-winning screenwriter and respected film producer.

Based on extensive research of Tidyman’s personal papers, this book tells the story of Shaft from the perspective of his creator.

David J. Schow is the author of numerous horror novels and stories. His most personal novel is The Shaft, presented here with a new introduction, new afterword, the original short story, and a stunning and complex design which serves to augment the novel's supernatural elements and the psychological anguish of its characters/5.

As someone who knows a bit about engine tuning (and especially camshafts) the only word I can find to describe this book is - rubbish. The author clearly knows nothing of how the four timings of a camshaft correlate with the rest of an engine, especially the exhaust length and diameter - or, indeed, how the inlet diameter and length come into the equation too.4/5(24).

The title may refer to the fact that this was the last book to feature the detective, or the story itself that pits Shaft against the Italian mob as well as corrupt cops, or the ambiguous ending. A fast-paced novel that, for me, didn't have any slow points or inconsistencies, that has Shaft avenging his friend, Vic Androzzi, who was murdered 4/5(1).

'Shaft: A Complicated Man' by David F. Walkder gives Shaft an origin story, and it's a darn good one. There is also a really good introduction by Shawn Taylor talking about the myhos of Shaft at this point in time.

When we first meet Shaft, he is freshly back from Vietnam and working as a boxer. He's already pretty angry with the way things are/5. Directed by Tim Story. With Samuel L. Jackson, Jessie T. Usher, Richard Roundtree, Regina Hall. JJ Shaft, a cyber security expert with a degree from MIT, enlists his family's help to uncover the truth behind his best friend's untimely death/10(K).

Review of “The Shaft” written by David J. Schow and Performed by Josh Brogadir “The Shaft” was first published in from the author that brought us screenplays for the movies “The Crow” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning”.

This novel is a gritty read, peppered with pure “Schowism” -my fancy made up word for. Shaft even came into conflict with President Diehard, who supported BryneTech, and lost his left arm.

Personality Jeff is a terrible speller with god awful grammar. The Shaft book series by Ernest Tidyman includes books Shaft, Shaft Among the Jews, Shaft's Big Score, and several more. See the complete Shaft series book list in order, box sets or omnibus editions, and companion titles.

David Walkers second Shaft comic book series, which follows last years excellent Shaft: A Complicated Man, has an altogether different tone to that hard-hitting debut. There is a dark satirical feel to a story that explores the underbelly of the sleazy porn industry in s New York/5. Ernest Tidyman’s novels set the basis for the first two films, but while he had a few more in the book series MGM decided to go the original story route with a script by Stirling Silliphant (In.

Shaft also made an appearance in the Alan Moore-written "Judgement Day" limited series printed by Liefeld's second comic book publishing company Awesome Comics. In it, he played a part in the trial of fellow Youngblood teammate Knightsabre.

Outside of Youngblood, he was featured in a crossover with the Valiant Comics heroes, notably d by: Rob Liefeld. Just to be clear, the latest movie with that title, directed by Tim Story, stars both of the old Shafts: Richard Roundtree, who created the role in the original and its several sequels, and.

Directed by Gordon Parks. With Richard Roundtree, Moses Gunn, Charles Cioffi, Christopher St. John. Cool black private eye John Shaft is hired by a crime lord to find and retrieve his kidnapped daughter/10(16K).

The final book, in which he rather rudely and unnecessarily kills Shaft off, The Last Shaft, appeared only in England and remains difficult to find. Took me years, and I had begun to think the similarly titled, Goodbye, Mr.

Parents need to know that Shaft is the sequel to Shaft () and the fifth movie in a series that began with Shaft (). This installment resorts to dumb comedy and has lots of sloppy, glamorized violence with no consequences.

Plus, its message is all about defining "being a man" as acting tough and objectifying women.2/5. Parents need to know that Shaft is a classic action movie in which Richard Roundtree plays a private detective in the middle of an impending war between the mob, the police, and a drug kingpin.

While it's not as violent as most action movies, there are some gun battles -- including a climactic shoot-out scene in a hotel involving machine guns and plenty of casualties.4/5.
